Trish & Mike’s courtship started as college friends in Vermont. Over the course of a few semesters, a bit of ‘waiting it out’, and a little liquid courage on Trish’s part, it finally blossomed into a romance. Their big day was five years in the making and we’d say it was worth the wait! The couple currently lives in Boston and planned their destination wedding at The Ritz Carlton in Sarasota
The proposal from Trish’s perspective (we live for these stories)! “One Saturday afternoon Mike said let’s go to the Lowe’s hotel for lunch and a cocktail. It was the most beautiful day in September so we walked over and had a fabulous lunch and some wine. After lunch, I asked Mike to check out the lobby of the hotel since it was new and just opened. All of a sudden he pulled out a room key. He brought me upstairs and had a suite all ready and all of my clothes packed. He said he thought it would be a fun night in the city. We had also been planning to go see the Lion King at the Boston Opera House that evening. After we got to the room I got a notification on Open Table that Mike canceled the reservation I had made. I thought something was going on but my mom threw me off completely by saying nothing was happening until the spring.
That evening we get all dressed up and go to the play. The entire time Mike as acting very strange. After the play, we go to the restaurant and they say they cannot take us anymore because the play got out too late. I could tell he was panicking. Mike said okay let’s go for a walk and skip dinner. We started to walk and ironically it started to rain so we went back to the hotel. When we got back to the hotel there were roses, chocolates, champagne, and apparently a card that said congratulations that Mike threw in his suitcase. He had asked the hotel to go all out since we were supposed to have been engaged by then. Mike said he was sick and went straight to bed since he was so upset. I stayed up and ate chocolate all night as happy as can be. The next morning Mike asked me to take a walk with him and to dress up so we could take an updated picture of us. We hadn’t had a picture taken in months so I believed him. As we crossed over the Boston Common Bridge Mike gave his phone to someone to record everything and got down on one knee. All of these people were screaming say yes and I thought Mike was going to faint he was so nervous! Even though nothing went according to plan it all worked out and he did a great job. “
The self-proclaimed foodies had an AMAZING menu (The Ritz Carlton always does a fantastic job) and the Motown music from the band kept the party alive all night!
